Fine Art Photographer : Kim Lorang
Artist with her parents at exhibit in their honor
Artist's Biography:
Kim Lorang's approach to the art of photography is one of a deeply personal avocation, producing unique views of nature and antiquity with an artist's eye and a craftsperson's hand. She prepared her first solo show, a special collection of photographs, as a loving gift to her parents and husband. The images are, in a sense, a mirror of those intangible treasures they have selflessly given her. While she classifies her photography as Realism, she seeks to capture the images and moods in her surroundings that others often overlook. Her prior exhibits include a 10 image series, "The Way of the Cross". Focusing on only hands, this high-contrast Black and White set of images has been featured at the Visions Gallery in Albany, as well as a number of churches in several states.
Kim's educational and professional background has been diverse, and yet uniquely intertwined. Her formal education ranged from Art School, Accounting and Non-Destructive Testing (i.e. math, physics, and material science.) Her professional experience includes financial management, display products design and production, graphic arts, and pre-press and color-correction for off-set printing. After ten years in commercial printing, Kim seized the opportunity to work in the fine-art world as a scanner operator and color correction specialist for the NancyScans Corporation, located in Chatham, NY. When the company expanded to include printing, Kim agreed to oversee the establishment of the Digital Output Division of NancyScans. Some of the experiences she cherishes include printing the first public images from FujiFilm's and Olympus Camera's ground-breaking digital cameras. Prints produced under her supervision have been displayed in four PhotoPlus East Conventions, and two PhotoMarketing Association shows.
Nearly six years ago, Kim once more took another career digression. This time it was to launch her own printing business, specializing in Fine-Art Giclee prints. While Visual Winds Studio specializes in fine art printing, the more important goal of the company is to provide expert services to artists at an affordable price, so that they can succeed and thrive. The name "Visual Winds" was an outgrowth of the concept that images can be as diverse as the winds...as gentle as a kiss or as violent as a storm...a vision that is all-encompassing. In addition to giclee printing services, she also does scanning and digital historic image restoration and reproduction.
Kim resides in Schenectady, NY with her husband, George, a Capital Region BOCES Teacher, and their two dogs. Their blended family included four adult children and one grumpy hedgehog. In addition to multi-generational family gatherings in southern Pennsylvania, she enjoys horses, kayaking, and tinkering with her "project" car.
